| Identity Alert! Creative Writing Project for Bunclody Library Wexford County Council Arts Service and Wexford County Council Library Service are delighted to announce that renowned author and facilitator Sylvia Cullen has been awarded a commission in Bunclody Library. Beginning in September, Sylvia will work with a number of small groups of teenagers from a local school. The aim of the project will be to facilitate the creation of new writing, comprising a series of short stories written in the first person, which will be performed as monologues in the library in December. Sylvia, in describing the project explained "This project will be devised around the twin themes of Identity and Heritage. Called I.D., it will be a dynamic, interactive project, bringing teenagers together to explore the world of literature, as well as creating their own new work". Sylvia Cullen is well known throughout the country as an award winning published author and playwright. She is an experienced facilitator having worked on in The National Museum, Baltinglass Hospital, Shelton Abbey Open Prison, Tinahely Foróige Club to name just a few residencies. The project is administered and managed by Wexford County Council. It is funded through the Per Cent for Art Scheme, whereby one per cent of the overall cost (up to certain limitations) of a construction project, in this case Bunclody Library, is ring-fenced and allocated to an art project. The new library in Bunclody was opened in June 2007, so this summer saw the librarys first anniversary. The new facility resulted in expanded services for the town and environs, including increased opening hours. The residency will be officially launched on Tuesday, 26th August before an address by local historian Canon Seamus S. de Val. Canon de Val will talk about the rising of 1798 in Bunclody.
