Bunclody ICA - New members needed

It is 70 years since ICA was started in Bunclody. The guild has always been very active in the parish for all those years. We want to keep that tradition alive. But, due in no small way to Covid 19 and the demographic ageing of our members, we are desperately looking for new members to join our guild. We meet once a month and have a guest speaker. Sometimes have various crafts, etc at our meeting. We also meet once a month for coffee and chat in local restaurant. Sadly, if we do not get new members, we may have to close the guild. If you have 2 hours to spare, once a month, and to keep the guild open, which was kept going by so many wonderful women in the past.

Please phone 087 2805426 or 086 8135587

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK

You may feel some sympathy with the Jews struggling to cope with 613 laws and wondering which were the important ones. Have you ever felt overwhelmed by the rules and regulations of your own tradition? And have you ever been blessed by meeting someone, or reading something, that was able to cut through all the layers and point out to you what is essential in life? Who was that person? What did s/he say or do? Is there some phrase or text that encapsulates such wisdom for you?

If you were asked what is most important in life, what would your answer be? Recall the experiences and relationships you have had. Which are the ones that you treasure most what has particularly enriched your life? How would you encourage another person who asked you how s/he could live a full life?

In the unusual circumstances of recent years social life was disrupted by Covid. We had to find unusual and creative ways of showing love to our neighbours. What ways of reaching out to others did you find were most appreciated?

THE HOOK OF FAITH THIS WEEK

The late Fr Tony Scallan was a priest of the diocese of Ferns who was a great advocate of the dignity of people with disabilities and their right to work. We share a special documentary on his life thanks to our friends in CMT. The homily for the Thirtieth Sunday of Ordinary Time comments on Jesus’ great commandment to love God and our neighbour as ourselves. We include a letter from Pope Francis to mark the 150th anniversary of the birth of St Therese of Lisieux. We explore what the witness of St Charles Borromeo might teach us about the synodal pathway as we celebrate his feast day on 4th November. We feature new research on the link between social media use and mental health. Finally, as the Opera Festival begins in Wexford, we have an article that compares Christian spirituality to harmonious music. Check out these and other resources available at www.thehookoffaith.com
