Bunclody ICA - New members needed

It is 70 years since ICA was started in Bunclody. The guild has always been very active in the parish for all those years. We want to keep that tradition alive. But, due in no small way to Covid 19 and the demographic ageing of our members, we are desperately looking for new members to join our guild. We meet once a month and have a guest speaker. Sometimes have various crafts, etc at our meeting. We also meet once a month for coffee and chat in local restaurant. Sadly, if we do not get new members, we may have to close the guild. If you have 2 hours to spare, once a month, and to keep the guild open, which was kept going by so many wonderful women in the past.

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK

This judgement scene contains surprises for us. One surprise is that nobody is condemned for doing wrong, but for their failure to do good. Being a disciple of Jesus is a positive choice about how we live and relate to others. Perhaps sin-avoidance has sometimes dominated your view of what was being asked of you. What difference has it made for you when you viewed your Christian life as a daily opportunity to make a positive difference to others?

Another way of saying this is that the aim of Christian living is not me-centred (about my personal sanctification) but other-centred (about responding to the needs of others). What happens to you when you get caught up in yourself? Is your life not better, and often more enjoyable, when you can look beyond yourself to others?

Another surprise is to hear Jesus tell us that when we do something for another, he considers it done to himself. When has seeing Christ in others helped you in your dealings with them?

The story is about the judgement of the whole of humanity. It presents an ideal of society in which human relationships at all levels are governed by law of love. In your experience what difference has it made to a group to which you belonged when there was a definite sensitivity to the needs of all members?

THE HOOK OF FAITH THIS WEEK

As we mark the 60th anniversary of the death of President Kennedy, we have the second part of an article that reflects on the role of his Catholic faith on his life and vision. We offer a homily and newsletter insert for the Feast of Christ the King based on the Gospel of the final judgment in Matthew’s Gospel where Jesus identifies himself with “the least of these brothers and sisters.” The third of the trilogy of zoom recordings on ‘Taking the Risk for Christ’ is included with a seminarian from St Patrick’s College Maynooth and Fr Tomas Sulis, Rector of the seminary. We also report on a successful Vocations ‘Come and See’ weekend that took place last week. ‘Catholics in a Woke World’ is a recording of a recent conference in Dublin on how we can navigate a culture increasingly hostile to alternative view points. Finally, more inputs on the debate on Assisted Dying. Check out these and other resources available at www.thehookoffaith.com
