Bunclody ICA - New members needed

It is 70 years since ICA was started in Bunclody. The guild has always been very active in the parish for all those years. We want to keep that tradition alive. But, due in no small way to Covid 19 and the demographic ageing of our members, we are desperately looking for new members to join our guild. We meet once a month and have a guest speaker. Sometimes have various crafts, etc at our meeting. We also meet once a month for coffee and chat in local restaurant. Sadly, if we do not get new members, we may have to close the guild. If you have 2 hours to spare, once a month, and to keep the guild open, which was kept going by so many wonderful women in the past.

Please phone 087 2805426 or 086 8135587

EVER THOUGHT OF PRIESTHOOD?

‘Take the Risk for Christ’ is the name given to this year of prayer and promotion to the diocesan priesthood. ‘Taking the Risk for Christ’ underlines the chance Christ asks us to give him as he leads us to the way of life he created us for. Might this way for you be priesthood or religious life? If you have thought and prayed about this possibility, then please know that help and support is available. Contact Fr Billy Swan, Vocations Director at billyswan68@hotmail.com for a chat and more information.

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK

On Monday we celebrate the Solemn Feast of Christmas. Over the last two months Christmas has got great attention. The commercial world is pushing back the beginning of Christmas preparation further and further. But it does little to draw attention to the magnificence of the Christmas Feast. It marks the remarkable intervention of God into our world. He came as a human baby and would grow as an ordinary person to full maturity. His message and thinking mapped out for us a way of life that would make us fully and genuinely human. He became a model for all of us to follow.

It is appropriate that we honour Jesus as we remember his birth in Bethlehem, the native city of the great king David. Jesus link with David is regularly affirmed in the Gospels. Jesus is the Light that shines in the darkness of our ignorance and sin. He enlightens us about God and about ourselves. He shows us that God is a loving God. His crucifixion and death is the measure of his own and God’s love for us. In relation to ourselves he shows us that love and service is what makes us fully human. In supporting others we enhance and increase our own stock of life. Jesus came that we may have life and have it to the full. It is no wonder that for us who believe Christmas is a celebration of joy.

May God bless everyone with a very happy, holy and delightful Christmas full of religious and family celebration.

THE HOOK OF FAITH THIS WEEK

Bishop Ger’s Christmas Message is top of the bill for this final weekend before Christmas. We have a homily for the Fourth Sunday of Advent and another for Christmas Day. We have an article on coming home for Christmas which has a literal meaning for thousands who will travel this week but also has an important spiritual meaning too. Bishop Robert Barron reflects on how the baby King takes on Caesar and we also include the recent Vatican document on the meaning and offering of a Christian blessing. Finally, a message to all our followers for Christmas, thanking you for your support in 2023 and looking forward to another year of communicating the Joy of the Gospel in 2024. Check out these and other resources available at www.thehookoffaith.com
