Bunclody ICA - New members needed

It is 70 years since ICA was started in Bunclody. The guild has always been very active in the parish for all those years. We want to keep that tradition alive. But, due in no small way to Covid 19 and the demographic ageing of our members, we are desperately looking for new members to join our guild. We meet once a month and have a guest speaker. Sometimes have various crafts, etc at our meeting. We also meet once a month for coffee and chat in local restaurant. Sadly, if we do not get new members, we may have to close the guild. If you have 2 hours to spare, once a month, and to keep the guild open, which was kept going by so many wonderful women in the past.

Please phone 087 2805426 or 086 8135587

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK

“I was there first”. Envy easily comes to the surface when faced with the good fortune of others, especially when compared to what seems less favourable treatment of ourselves. Can you recall that feeling in yourself and what it did to you? Can you also recall times when you were content with your lot, even though it seemed others had greater gifts, better opportunities etc.

A parent or teacher who gives a lot of time to a difficult child does not love the others less, but if we are one of those other children we may not see that. Recall a “Jesus person” in your life who helped you to overcome feelings of envy and helped you appreciate that the apparently more favourable treatment of another did not mean a lessening of love for you.

This leads us to the core message of this parable, namely, that God’s love is a free gift, and not earned. Recall moments when you were particularly conscious of the gifts that God has given you by counting all the blessings that you have, no matter how small.

“It is too late now” are words sometimes uttered to justify doing nothing about a situation. This parable tells us that where love is involved, it is never too late. Can you recall times when you got a positive response after taking action when you thought it was “too late”?

THE HOOK OF FAITH THIS WEEK

This Sunday is the 109th World Day of Migrants and Refugees. We include Pope Francis’ message which focuses on the freedom, or lack of it, for people to choose to stay in their homelands or to leave. Here in Wexford, we speak with Ms. Tanya Savelieva, a Ukrainian lady who works as translator and SNA at CBS Primary School. In the interview, she speaks of her experience of coming to Ireland and the circumstances that led to it. We have an article by Sean O’Leary, the Diocesan of Pastoral Development and a video on the life of Venerable Jerome Lejeune. As the Synod on synodality begins in Rome, we have prayers that Pope Francis asks every parish around the world to make. We have a focus on St Vincent de Paul on his feast day and have resources that help us to discern what our vocation might be. Check out these and other resources available at www.thehookoffaith.com
