Crisis in Haiti

‘Trócaire is a member of Caritas Internatioalis, the international network of 162 Catholic relief agencies based in Rome. Trócaire is working in Haiti through their network of parishes giving us direct access to devastated communities in Port - au-Prince. Within days of the earthquake Trócaire’s partners were providing the equipment, electricity and staff for two operating theatres in the main Catholic hospital in Port- au -Prince. Our partner Caritas in Haiti runs over 200 hospitals and medical centres, all staffed by local people. Funds donated to Trócaire will be channelled through this network for greatest speed and impact. Trócaires support to the people of Haiti will continue long -term .

I’d like to thank parishioners who have so generously donated to Trócaire’s appeal to help those affected by the devastating earthquake in Haiti a week ago. During an emergency such as this , 100 per cent of money donated to Trócaire is spent on our response. Justin Kilcullen, Director of Trócaire

The Bishop of Ferns, Dr. Denis Brennan has invited the priests of Ferns hold a second "post Communion" basket collection in the churches of the diocese, this weekend, Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th January 2010. The Parish will to forward the monies to the diocese by Friday 29th January 2010 for onward transmission to Trócaire at Maynooth.
