Bunclody ICA - New members needed

It is 70 years since ICA was started in Bunclody. The guild has always been very active in the parish for all those years. We want to keep that tradition alive. But, due in no small way to Covid 19 and the demographic ageing of our members, we are desperately looking for new members to join our guild. We meet once a month and have a guest speaker. Sometimes have various crafts, etc at our meeting. We also meet once a month for coffee and chat in local restaurant. Sadly, if we do not get new members, we may have to close the guild. If you have 2 hours to spare, once a month, and to keep the guild open, which was kept going by so many wonderful women in the past.

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK

A gift given in love, is given to be enjoyed, treasured, and used. Through fear, one servant failed to recognize the loving trust being shown to him and buried the talent. When have you found that overcoming fear helped you to make the most of opportunities in life?

On the level of our own personal life, faith is not given to us to be locked away, but to be “traded” with. We trade with it when we believe in its value, trust it, and use it, bringing it into the experiences we have in daily life. Can you recall times when relying on your faith has brought you rewards?

Likewise with our own personal gifts and talents. We can fall into the trap of seeing these as our personal possession so that we can do with them as we like, rather than share them as gifts so that they can be multiplied. What is your experience of hoarding or sharing your own gifts? When did you feel most alive?

Pope Francis in his letter The Joy of the Gospel wrote, “I invite everyone to be bold and creative in this task of rethinking the goals, structures, style and methods of envangelisation in their respective communities...The important thing is to not walk alone, but to rely on each other as brothers and sisters”. EG(33) How is your parish responding to this call?

THE HOOK OF FAITH THIS WEEK

Next Wednesday 22nd November marks the 60th anniversary of the death of President John F. Kennedy. An article explores the influence of his Catholic faith on his life, vision and leadership. As Science Week ends, the newsletter insert offers reflections on how the observation of the natural world can draw us towards faith and worship of our Creator God. We have a homily for the Thirty-Third Sunday of Ordinary Time and Pope Francis’s Message for ‘World Day of the Poor’ which is also marked this Sunday. We have article on the life of St Columbanus whose anniversary falls on 23rd November and an article on the Holy Face by Patricia McNally. Finally, we upload the second of the trilogy of zoom recordings on ‘Taking the Risk for Christ’ where a newly ordained and a Silver Jubilarian share their hopes and gratitude. Check out these and other resources available at www.thehookoffaith.com
