Bunclody ICA - New members needed

It is 70 years since ICA was started in Bunclody. The guild has always been very active in the parish for all those years. We want to keep that tradition alive. But, due in no small way to Covid 19 and the demographic ageing of our members, we are desperately looking for new members to join our guild. We meet once a month and have a guest speaker. Sometimes have various crafts, etc at our meeting. We also meet once a month for coffee and chat in local restaurant. Sadly, if we do not get new members, we may have to close the guild. If you have 2 hours to spare, once a month, and to keep the guild open, which was kept going by so many wonderful women in the past.

Please phone 087 2805426 or 086 8135587

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK

Jesus allowed himself to be touched by the needs of the crowd. When you are with people, what difference does it make to the way you relate to them when you have empathy with them?
The commission Jesus gave the twelve ‘ to cure all kinds of diseases and sickness’ is a reminder to us that we all have the capacity to be an influence for good in the lives of others. In this we continue the mission of Jesus (cf. St Teresa’s Prayer). When have you experienced yourself as having a healing or life-giving influence on another person? Who has had that influence on you?
At a first glance it might seem that Jesus made some bad choices in his twelve apostles. One will deny Jesus, another will betray him and others are only interested in who will be first. All of them will run away in the end. This reminds us that all kinds can share in the mission of Jesus, no matter how we see ourselves.
The instructions Jesus gave the disciples before he sent them out have a note of urgency about them. What difference does it make for you when you approach a task with a sense of urgency.
He also tells them their service should be ‘without charge’, keeping in mind what they have received without charge from God. Remember when you have received generous and understanding love from another.

THE HOOK OF FAITH THIS WEEK

This Sunday, 18th June, is the annual ‘Day for Life’ in Ireland, England Wales. We have resources for this important day when the dignity of human life and especially vulnerable life is celebrated. We have a homily for the Eleventh Sunday of Ordinary Time as Jesus summons friends who would share in his mission and continue it for all times and places. The Lord asks us this weekend to ‘ask the Lord of the harvest to send labourers to his harvest’ and so we feature the theme of vocation for this year of ‘Take the Risk for Christ’. We honour the Irish Martyrs whose feast falls on 20th June and also the joint feast of Saints John Fisher and Thomas More on 22nd June. Finally, a video explores the wonders and limits of science. Check out these and other reContributions to the Church sources available at www.thehookoffaith.com
