Bunclody ICA - New members needed

It is 70 years since ICA was started in Bunclody. The guild has always been very active in the parish for all those years. We want to keep that tradition alive. But, due in no small way to Covid 19 and the demographic ageing of our members, we are desperately looking for new members to join our guild. We meet once a month and have a guest speaker. Sometimes have various crafts, etc at our meeting. We also meet once a month for coffee and chat in local restaurant. Sadly, if we do not get new members, we may have to close the guild. If you have 2 hours to spare, once a month, and to keep the guild open, which was kept going by so many wonderful women in the past.

Please phone 087 2805426 or 086 8135587

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK

The parable of the grain of wheat reminds us of a truth that any parent can testify to, namely that it is in dying to ourselves that we can give life to others. We will never be of benefit to others if we remain wrapped up in ourselves. In what ways has your dying to yourself brought life to another? How has the generous giving of another brought life to you?

Sometimes our emotions rebel at the thought of what lies ahead, and we feel like praying Father, save me from this hour. Then a realisation may come for you as a parent, a teacher, a spouse, a friend: No, it is for this reason that I have come to this hour. Recall times when you have accepted pain or hassle and been a source of life to others for doing do.

The story presents the death of Jesus as the moment of his glorification by God. We are also glorified when the grace of God enables us to give generously of ourselves. When have you experienced this in yourself or in another?

This voice has come for your sake and not for mine. The angel spoke that we might recognise the love being shown us by Jesus. Sometimes it requires the voice of another to draw our attention to love that is being offered to us. When was this your experience?

THE HOOK OF FAITH THIS WEEK

This year, the feast of St Patrick falls on the Fifth Sun-day of Lent. In the mist of the celebrations, it is good for us to remember how Patrick urged us to turn away from false gods in keeping with the focus of this penitential season. We offer a homily and the newsletter insert on this special day and also an article on why the witness of St Patrick continues to inspire. In keeping with Patrick’s missionary spirit, we have an interview with the Ferns Director of pastoral Development Sean O’Leary who talks about the Diocesan Pastoral Plan ‘Our Future Church’ and the special collection this weekend to fund it. A video interview with Fr Brendan Kilcoyne discusses the challenge to re-evangelise Ireland and we include the recording of the recent webinar on the promotion of Vocations. Finally, we have the last meditations on ‘Jesus’ Seven Last Words’ and include an article on St Joseph as a man of honour on his feast day.
Check out these and other resources available at www.thehookoffaith.com
