Bunclody ICA - New members needed

It is 70 years since ICA was started in Bunclody. The guild has always been very active in the parish for all those years. We want to keep that tradition alive. But, due in no small way to Covid 19 and the demographic ageing of our members, we are desperately looking for new members to join our guild. We meet once a month and have a guest speaker. Sometimes have various crafts, etc at our meeting. We also meet once a month for coffee and chat in local restaurant. Sadly, if we do not get new members, we may have to close the guild. If you have 2 hours to spare, once a month, and to keep the guild open, which was kept going by so many wonderful women in the past.

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK

Jesus used parables as essential features of his teaching. A Parable is a metaphor or simile or image to communicate his message. The Parable of this Sunday’s mass is that of the Sower. We have both the parable and a detailed explanation of the parable. In the parable itself Jesus probably suggests the small beginning of his kingdom which will eventually grow and flourish and produce a crop of a hundredfold, sixty and thirty.

In the explanation the parable becomes an allegory with many points of comparison. The seed is identified with the word of the kingdom, in other words, the teaching of Jesus. The first group mentioned are those who hear the word of the kingdom and do not understand it, because “the evil one comes and carries off what is sown in the heart”. If a person’s thinking is evil and perverted by evil it is unlikely that he will come to accept the teaching of Jesus. Theseed that fell on rock represents the people who receive the word with joy, but they have no roots, no deep convictions, and so it does not last too long. If some trial or persecution comes their way they falter easily.

The person who receives the seed in thorns is the man who hears the word of Jesus, but he is so caught up with the cares of this world and the attraction of riches that he is overcome by them and accomplishes nothing. The seed in rich soil is the person who hears the message of Jesus, understands it, assimilates it, reflects on it , thinks about it and lives by it. He is the one who “produces now a hundredfold, now sixty, now thirty”. The word of Jesus is the key to a good and flourishing life, not just for individuals but for the whole community. It creates a culture that uplifts the world.
