and I ask you to illuminate my mind and heart. Let your Holy Spirit be with me as I
prepare for exams, guiding my studies, and giving me insight so that I can perform to the
best of my ability. Please grant me the strength to handle the pressure of these final

Prayer for Priests
"You came from among us to be, for us, one who serves. We thank you for
ministering Christ to us and helping us minister Christ to each other. We are grateful for
the many gifts you bring to our community: for drawing us together in worship, for
visiting us in our homes, for comforting us in sickness, for showing us compassion, for
blessing our marriage, for baptising our children, for confirming us in our calling, for
supporting us in bereavement, for helping us to grow in faith, for encouraging us to take
the initiative, for helping the whole community realise Gods presence among us.
For our part, we pray that we may always be attentive to your needs and never take you
or others for granted. You, like us, need friendship and love, welcome and a sense of
belonging, kind words and acts of thoughtfulness. We pray, also, for the priests who have
wounded priesthood. May we be willing to forgive and may they be open to healing. Let us
support one another during times of crisis.
God our Father, we ask you to bless our Priests and to confirm them in their calling.
Give them the gifts they need to respond with generosity and a joyful heart. We offer this
prayer for our priest, Who is our brother and friend, Amen.
The Deep end Lost in Translation
Today's Second Reading (Rom 5:6-11) carries three terrible words, at least in the NRSV
Catholic Edition. They are:'wrath of God' (v.9). what image of God do those words conjure
up: the Fuming Father, the Dour Deity, or the Spiteful Spirit? It may be just a human way
of speaking about God, yet it refers to something real that we need to be saved from - or
so it seems. And we need God's Son to save us from it. Are we to believe then that an
angry God demands the agonizing death of his beloved Son to quench his anger? I hope not.
So what of the wrath that Paul speaks of? An interesting little footnote in the NRSV
about these three woeful words tells us that the Greek has 'the wrath'. The 'of God' bit
is not there. For me, that puts quite a different complexion on Rom 5:9.
The wrath now is the built-in consequence of greed, violence, corruption and
godlessness. It is humanity's self-inflicted wrath - avoidable if we but acknowledge the
light of Christ and live in it. It's not the wrath of an irate God blasting humankind into
oblivion. It's the disaster people bring on themselves by their godlessness.
A loving Father sent his Son into this godlessness in spite of what would happen to
him, not so that it would happen. His blood justifies us; that symbol of his loving
faithfulness to his Father. Only a similar faithfulness in ourselves will save us from
'the wrath'. Or, should the be 'our wrath'?
