Bunclody ICA - New members needed

It is 70 years since ICA was started in Bunclody. The guild has always been very active in the parish for all those years. We want to keep that tradition alive. But, due in no small way to Covid 19 and the demographic ageing of our members, we are desperately looking for new members to join our guild. We meet once a month and have a guest speaker. Sometimes have various crafts, etc at our meeting. We also meet once a month for coffee and chat in local restaurant. Sadly, if we do not get new members, we may have to close the guild. If you have 2 hours to spare, once a month, and to keep the guild open, which was kept going by so many wonderful women in the past.

Please phone 087 2805426 or 086 8135587

EVER THOUGHT OF PRIESTHOOD?

‘Take the Risk for Christ’ is the name given to this year of prayer and promotion to the diocesan priesthood. ‘Taking the Risk for Christ’ underlines the chance Christ asks us to give him as he leads us to the way of life he created us for. Might this way for you be priesthood or religious life? If you have thought and prayed about this possibility, then please know that help and support is available. Contact Fr Billy Swan, Vocations Director at billyswan68@hotmail.com for a chat and more information.

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK

John pointed the disciples towards Jesus as the one they should follow. Remember the people in your life who have pointed you in a new and life-giving direction? Perhaps in some cases this may have involved directing you away from your association with them, e.g. leaving home, changing jobs etc.

Where do you live? Jesus did not respond to the question by giving the disciples his address. He invited them to come and experience where and how he lived. Discipleship is a lived experience. What experiences have helped you to learn how Jesus lived, and what he was looking for in life? How has this attracted you to follow him?

What is your experience of gathering in small groups to learn to live like Jesus by listening to the Gospel together? Where two or three are gathered in his name, Jesus is there with them. What group experiences have helped your faith to grow?

Andrew did not keep the good news to himself but also invited his brother to join him in following Jesus. What is your experience of receiving, or giving, an invitation to join in some worthwhile venture?

THE HOOK OF FAITH THIS WEEK

The Gospel for the Second Sunday of Ordinary Time focuses on the first encounter between Peter and Jesus. We are told that Jesus ‘Looked hard at him’ as he gazed on Peter with mercy but with hope because he was the person he had chosen to lead the Church. We have a homily and a reflection on the Second Reading from Paul which highlights the value of the forgotten virtue of chastity and what it means to love with one’s whole body. Bishop Robert Barron explores how to be a person of greater love and the late Cardinal Suenens explains hope for the Church. We share the findings of yet another study which shows the social benefits of faith. Finally, we focus on the importance of Christian Unity Week which runs from 18th to 25th January. Check out these and other resources available at www.thehookoffaith.com
