Bunclody ICA - New members needed

It is 70 years since ICA was started in Bunclody. The guild has always been very active in the parish for all those years. We want to keep that tradition alive. But, due in no small way to Covid 19 and the demographic ageing of our members, we are desperately looking for new members to join our guild. We meet once a month and have a guest speaker. Sometimes have various crafts, etc at our meeting. We also meet once a month for coffee and chat in local restaurant. Sadly, if we do not get new members, we may have to close the guild. If you have 2 hours to spare, once a month, and to keep the guild open, which was kept going by so many wonderful women in the past.

Please phone 087 2805426 or 086 8135587

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK

Faith is reasonable but we cannot reason our way into faith. We have to be ‘drawn by the Father’. We must be ‘taught by God’. What opens your mind and heart to God’s message?
When we label others disparagingly, we close our minds to what they are saying. The Jews did this to Jesus. Have you ever had the experience of being surprised by the wisdom of another when you laid aside your prejudices about her/him to listen to what s/he was saying?
‘No one has ever seen the Father except the one who is from God’. As Jesus put a human face on God and God’s love, so God’s love today is mediated to us through one another. How have other people been sacraments of God’s love for you? For whom have you been kind of a sacrament?
The way in which Jesus became a source of life for us was by giving himself. It is when we truly give ourselves that we can be life-giving to one another. If we do not give of ourselves, what do we have to offer? How have you discovered the importance of self-giving, in yourself or in others?

THE HOOK OF FAITH THIS WEEK

Pope Francis has just published a teaching document on the place of literature in Christian formation. He explains how some of the best literature contains the wisdom and truth of the Gospel. At a recent National Eucharistic Congress in the United States, Cardinal Tagle gave a wonderful homily at the closing Mass on how the Eucharist is a both a gift and teaches us to be a gift for others. The homily for the Nineteenth Sunday of Ordinary Time continues our reflection on Jesus’s teaching on ‘the Bread of Life’. As the Fleadh Cheoil concludes in Wexford, we have an article on ‘Music, Beauty and the Life of Faith’. As we celebrate the feast day of St Maximilian Kolbe on 14th August, we reflect on his extraordinary witness of charity. We have a homily for the Feast of the Assumption on 15th August and finally an article on the controversial opening ceremony at the Olympics.
