Bunclody ICA - New members needed

It is 70 years since ICA was started in Bunclody. The guild has always been very active in the parish for all those years. We want to keep that tradition alive. But, due in no small way to Covid 19 and the demographic ageing of our members, we are desperately looking for new members to join our guild. We meet once a month and have a guest speaker. Sometimes have various crafts, etc at our meeting. We also meet once a month for coffee and chat in local restaurant. Sadly, if we do not get new members, we may have to close the guild. If you have 2 hours to spare, once a month, and to keep the guild open, which was kept going by so many wonderful women in the past.

Please phone 087 2805426 or 086 8135587

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK

Mark open his gospel by describing it as “the good news about Jesus Christ”. Think of the different ways in which the gospel stories have been good news for you.
John the Baptist is presented as a messenger to prepare the way for Jesus. Who have been messengers to you, preparing the way for the first Lord by alerting you to ways in which you could improve your life.? To whom have you been such a messenger?
John calls the people to repentance (= a change of heart), as a way to a new life. Can you recall times when you had a change of heart, and the change revitalised you?
John baptised people with water as a gesture to mark their change of heart. Sometimes we perform an action to symbolize our change of heart-write a letter, throw away our last cigarettes, etc. can you remember a symbolic gesture with which you marked a change of heart

THE HOOK OF FAITH THIS WEEK

What is the position of the Catholic Church on assisted suicide? Read the official submission to the current Oireachtas hearing. Although he was unable to deliver it in person, we feature Pope Francis’ speech on climate change at COP28 last week. The homily for the Second Sunday of Advent reflects on our call to repent, to change and to prepare spiritually for the celebration of Christmas. As parishes hold Reconciliation Services in these days, we include quotes on the gift and power of God’s forgiveness through the sacrament of forgiveness. We highlight the plight of Bishop Alvarez in Nicaragua and ask the question of what it means to discern ‘The Signs of the Times’. We have an article on St John of the Cross for his feast day and more feedback from the recent ‘Synod on Synodality' in Rome. Check out these and other resources available at www.thehookoffaith.com
