Bunclody ICA - New members needed

It is 70 years since ICA was started in Bunclody. The guild has always been very active in the parish for all those years. We want to keep that tradition alive. But, due in no small way to Covid 19 and the demographic ageing of our members, we are desperately looking for new members to join our guild. We meet once a month and have a guest speaker. Sometimes have various crafts, etc at our meeting. We also meet once a month for coffee and chat in local restaurant. Sadly, if we do not get new members, we may have to close the guild. If you have 2 hours to spare, once a month, and to keep the guild open, which was kept going by so many wonderful women in the past.

Please phone 087 2805426 or 086 8135587

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK

At this time Matthew was writing his gospel local church communities would have numbered no more than fifty people. They would be known to one another. Matthew presents the instructions of Jesus for dealing with people whose behaviour disrupted and harmed the community. Note the steps suggested. Simple directions but many of us do otherwise. We avoid difficult confrontations. We talk about the faults to everyone but themselves. We go over the head of someone who displeases us and make complaints. In your experience, which approach is life-giving for you and for others?

While Jesus is referring to a group situation, the advice can be applied also to personal difficulties and problems with others. What lessons has life taught you about constructive ways of dealing with conflict?

As individuals and communities we have the power to bind and to loose, to exclude people from relationship, or to open up and include others in relationship. When have you found it important to acknowledge this power in your own life?

Jesus also promises to be with his followers when they gather together. What does that mean to you? How have you experienced the presence of Jesus in his followers gathered together? During the recent lockdown due to the coronavirus, how did you experience the presence of Jesus in your faith community?

THE HOOK OF FAITH THIS WEEK

This Sunday 10th September is ‘World Suicide Prevention Day’. We have reflections and resources that speak of hope for all who are struggling. The Homily for the Twenty-Third Sunday of Ordinary Time is about the delicate challenge of fraternal correction that Jesus presents to us in this Sunday’s Gospel. Our interview this week is with one of the young people who travelled with the diocese for World Youth Day in Lisbon who speaks of the experience of celebrating faith with young people from all over the world. We have a homily for the Feast of the Exaltation of the Cross on 14th September and Our Lady of Sorrows on the following day. Finally, a review of the new film ‘The Sound of Freedom’ which sheds light on the evil trade of child trafficking Check out these and other resources available at www.thehookoffaith.com
