Tidy Towns:
Bunclody Tidy Towns Association are entering the National Tidy Towns Competition again
this year. We did fairly well in 2008, increasing our points awarded in 2007. This success
is due in no small way to the work of individuals who work tirelessly to keep Bunclody
looking its best, all year round. The committee would like to especially thank Peter
O Callaghan and Eddie Fisher both from Fás , Jim OBrien who helps in various
ways, Sarah Codd, who looks after the flowers and shrubs at Market Square, Ronnie Moorhead
who keeps the flower troughs on The Mall always looking their best and Ann Hayes for
keeping Carrig Bán litter free. We are hoping to do even better in this years competition
and consequently, we are starting our weekly clean ups on Monday 11th May and every
Monday, from 7.00 p.m. - 8.00 p.m. and meet in the Church Car Park. The inspections for
the competition start on 1st June.If you have an hour or part free to spare . The
inspections for the competition start on 1st June so if you have and hour free please come
along and lend a hand to any of the clean ups. Your Help would really be appreciated.

The Deep End -- Comfort in the Spirit
In his book Things Hidden Richard Rohr writes: Isnt it ironic that most of the
gospel has probably been preached and taught by people who are very comfortable?
Thats almost an assurance that these preachers will largely miss the point, that
they will not preach the true or full message (p.104). This comes to mind on hearing
todays First Reading (Acts 9:26-31). Referring to the early Church Luke writes:
Living in the fear of the Lord and in the comfort of the Holy Spirit, it increased
in numbers (v.31)
According to Rohr, it seems, comfort and blindness to truth go hand-in-hand. Are we
then to hold discomfort, insecurity, and borderline poverty as kingdom values - ones we
need to live by to be members of the kingdom of God? That would be a tall order for many,
if so. While Jesus doesnt appear in the Gospels as very comfortable,
neither does he appear destitute.
Jesus discomfort comes from opposing hypocrisy wherever he finds it.
Taking a stance against hypocrisy threatens his safety, and forces him to the margins of
society - even to the most extreme of margins: Golgotha.
There may be a time for that, although we pray, lead us not into temptation - do not
put us to the test. But there is a time for enjoying the comfort of the Holy
Spirit, for enjoying the warm and healthy glow that goodness, sincere service and
holiness of life can produce. Indeed, we are called to be comfortable people; but
comfortable with Gods Spirit, not with the hypocrisy around or within us.
