Trocaire’s Lenten Campaign

That we can call God our father tells us the kind of relationship we can have with our God. He cares for his as a father cares for his children. This second Sunday of Lent, we remember parents as they work so tirelessly and often against the odds to care for their children.

Khalid the little boy on the front of this year’s Trocaire box, is one of these children. Khalid is just one of almost one million Somalis who have been forced from their homes due to ongoing conflict and violence, where one in five children die before reaching the age of five. Please support Trocaire Lenten campaign this year. In doing this, you help the poorest parents of our world care for their children as God cares for us his children.

Help us reclaim PAYE paid on donations.

If you made donations amounting to €250 or more in 2008 and you are a PAYE taxpayer, we ( as a registered Charity) could reclaim the income tax you paid on the amount. If you are self - assessed or a company and your donation to our Church was €250 or more in 2008 you can claim tax relief on your donation The procedure is very simple. Just ask us for a special Revenue form, fill in your P.P.S. number, indicate your rate of tax, sign the form, and return it to us. We fill in the amount of your annual donations and post the form to the Revenue, who will refund us the tax. It cost you nothing. Self - assessed taxpayers can ask us for a receipt and reclaim the tax themselves. (Revenue Forms will be available at the Parish Office)

Year of Vocation

A Diocesan Vocations Launch was held this week in the Diocese of Ferns. " Is God Calling You?

What is a Priest?

All baptised Christians , led by the Spirit of Jesus, are called to be his witnesses both in what we say and in how we live. In that way, we literally represent Him. Baptism is not just something that happens to us; it is about what we become. We become members of the body of Christ. To use the words of St. Teresa of Avila: "Christ has no body now, but yours."

Priests represent Christ in a particular way when they celebrate the Eucharist, and also when they preach the Gospel or celebrate the other sacraments. Through the sacrament of Holy Orders a priest, in spite of his own human limitations and even his personal sinfulness, " becomes Christ" for the people. This is not just a matter of imitating Christ or taking his place. We believe that through the power of the Holy Spirit, it is Christ himself who teaches, feeds, heals, and forgives His people, in the ministry of the priest.

Prayer for Vocations -God our Father, we trust in your loving kindness. Bless our Diocese of Ferns with many priests and religious vocations. Give the men and women you call the light to understand your gift and the love to follow always in the footsteps of your Son. Amen
