GOOD FRIDAY IS A DAY OF FAST AND ABSTINENCE

As we have journeyed together this Lent we have prayed in solidarity with 26 million people who have been displaced as a result of conflict around the world. We have heard their stories and found out some of the ways Trócaire seeks to be beacons of light for these our most vulnerable brothers and sisters. This Sunday we invite you once again to consider Somalia and to hear an important invitation from Trócaire around a way you can help. The global silence on Somalia has been deafening. More than one million civilians have been forced to flee their homes because of violence and need protection. Peace must be built but this requires leadership and resources. Trócaire is calling on the Irish and UK governments to appoint a Peace Advocate to speak on behalf of the voiceless. A Peace Advocate can champion the protection of civilians, promote sustainable peace and help facilitate humanitarian access. A Peace Advocate is a vital commitment of resources and solidarity.

Please sign Trócaire’s campaign postcards available from Maynooth (01) 6293333, Belfast 90808030 or sign online www.trócaire. org. In doing so, you show your desire to stand in solidarity with our brothers and sisters in need.

Trocaire Boxes to be returned on Good Friday. Thank You for your contributions

Palm Sunday

Reflection for the Day

In the floor of the holy sepulchre in Jerusalem, you can put your hand through a hole and you can touch the rock of Calvary. The place of the crucifixion is as near as a touch of the hand.

Crucifixion is near for us all the time—our worries, problems, suffering—all ages know some pain and suffering. And the other side—all through this story Easter is near. We celebrate from this side of Easter. We can always find hope. There’s no rock of resurrection we can touch, in faith. We can face the worst because Jesus has known the best—new life, new hope, never a final end.

A time in prayer when all is quiet and still, help from family and friends, a doctor, a nurse, all the people who can help—that’s how we can touch the rock of resurrection . That ’s what we remember this week. Action for the Week
