Bunclody ICA - New members needed

It is 70 years since ICA was started in Bunclody. The guild has always been very active in the parish for all those years. We want to keep that tradition alive. But, due in no small way to Covid 19 and the demographic ageing of our members, we are desperately looking for new members to join our guild. We meet once a month and have a guest speaker. Sometimes have various crafts, etc at our meeting. We also meet once a month for coffee and chat in local restaurant. Sadly, if we do not get new members, we may have to close the guild. If you have 2 hours to spare, once a month, and to keep the guild open, which was kept going by so many wonderful women in the past.

Please phone 087 2805426 or 086 8135587

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK

Short-term loss is sometimes necessary for long-term gain, as a student studying, or an athlete training, can testify. When have you found that denying yourself proved to be worthwhile because of what you gained afterwards?

Jesus was teaching his followers that the path of discipleship would involve pain and suffering. His friend, Peter, would have none of it. Sometimes friends have a mistaken idea of what is for our good. What lessons have you learned about handling bad advice from a good friend?

Jesus knew that because his good news message was not acceptable to the authorities he would suffer and die. In spite of this, he trusted that the power of God would overcome evil. Have you seen a good news message survive even though opponents tried to stifle it?

Jesus promised that those who suffer for the kingdom would be rewarded. Perhaps, even in this earthly life, you have experienced reward for faithful discipleship. What have these rewards been?

THE HOOK OF FAITH THIS WEEK

Bishop Ger has written a Pastoral letter on Lay Ministry and the future of the Church in our diocese. He explains the context and content in an interview. As the ‘Season of Creation’ begins, we have a homily by Bishop Martin Hayes and an article about water as the source of life. The newsletter insert is a quote from ‘Laudato Si’ that inspired the establishment of the ‘Season of Creation’. As we mark the 5th anniversary of Pope Francis’ visit for the World Meeting of Families in 2018, we look back on that historic occasion. We include the Pope’s prayer intention for September which is ‘For People Living on the Margins’ and a helpful article on how the Church can become more synodal and what that means. Finally, a few resources for schools and chaplains of schools as a new academic year begins. Check out these and other resources available at www.thehookoffaith.com
