From 2 - 7 April 2009, a pilgrimage of 20 people from the Diocese will be going to Rome to celebrate WYD an to bless the Cross and Icon which will become our " Pilgrim Cross and Icon" for the Diocese. This pilgrimage is open to all young people of the Diocese but, because it is a limited number, spaces will be allocated on a first come, first served basis. The pilgrimage will include a visit to the Scavi under St. Peters, Assisi, the catacombs and many of the sites of Rome. We will also join with Pope Benedict for Mass on Palm Sunday in St. Peters Square. This will be quite inexpensive - as pilgrimages go - but it will require a little bit of work on the pilgrim’s behalf. For more details you are asked to contact Fr. Jim Doyle on 053 9377624 or Fr. Ken Quinn on 051 447086.

Catholic Schools Week

This week is Catholic Schools Week in Ireland and we are asked to value our local primary school for all that it is and all that it offers.

What is a Catholic School?

The Catholic School: Offers a distinctive vision of life and corresponding philosophy of education based on the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Strives to create a learning environment where every child is encouraged and enabled to develop to their full and unique potential as human beings, made in the image and likeness of God.

Seeks to form pupils who will unselfishly use their gifts for the common good and are committed to work for a more just and caring society.

Is a welcome and inclusive community that is respectful and tolerant of all religious traditions and beliefs.

Works in partnership with parents and the parish community to keep the light of faith received at baptism burning brightly.

Provides opportunities for worship through prayer and the celebration of liturgy and the sacraments.
